MIND AUSTRALIA

About Mind

Mind has been operating for more than 30 years and is one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit providers of mental health services to people recovering from mental illness. Mind supports more than 2,300 people each year on their journey of recovery and to move beyond homelessness.

Mind works with people who are experiencing the effects of serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, severe depressions and anxiety disorders.

Mind’s services assist people to deal with the effects of mental illness and homelessness and are specifically designed to focus on the person and their recovery – rather that the illness. Recovery is a personal journey and each person’s experience will be very different from the next. They will all have different, hopes, dreams and visions of recovery and it is Mind’s role to support them to discover what recovery means to them and help them on their journey.

Mind’s framework of recovery places strong emphasis on relationships, environment, sense of self and skill building, as well as connecting with the broader community. This can involve developing social, recreational, education and employment opportunities.

Mind recognises that people can and do recover from mental illness and supports them so they don’t have to do it alone.

Mind Programs along the Peninsula

Seaford program

Residential

The Seaford Program offers a two year residential recovery program for 10 young people, aged 18 – 24, who are experiencing serious mental health issues. The program provides individual support as well as working to foster a supportive community.

Outreach

The Seaford Intensive Home-based Outreach Program offers an intensive outreach service for six people who are at risk of homelessness and are recovering from mental illness. The outreach service is available for a one year period during which time the client is housed within a transitional housing unit. The transitional housing units in which clients are accommodated are located in the Frankston and Seaford area.  In some instances clients may live in their own home or unit.
